The Tarito coffee farmers group was formed in 2007. It is one of the groups that gave birth to Kabeywa united coffee farmers society (KUCOFAS). The Tarito coffee farmers group consists of 41 member (25 Men and 16 Women). Most of the farms owned by the members are found between 1800-1900 Meters above sea level. The group is located in Kabeywa sub county, Kapchorwa district, Elgon region in Eastern Uganda. The main economic activity carried out by the group members is farming and mainly coffee farming. They also do practice banana farming as the main food crop.

Coffee is Uganda’s top-earning export crop. In 1989 Uganda’s coffee production capacity exceeded its quota of 2.3 million bags, but export volumes were still diminished by economic and security problems, and large amounts of coffee beans were still being smuggled out of Uganda for sale in neighbouring countries.
