This coffee is produced by Picasso Nduwayo from
Burundi who set up a small washing station for the
production of specialty coffee in Uganda a few years
ago. The traditional processing method is washed Arabica.
naturals are still rare so Picasso has brought his
experience as a coffee producer in Burundi to Bugisu
district. He obtains his coffee from a small association
of about 100 members, the “Namulunyi Yetana Tubana
savings group” in Mukoto village. The farms are remote
and cherries have to be transported on rocky murram
roads over 20 km to the washing station. The fresh red
cherries are floated, sorted and after 3-5 days of yeast
and sugar development in the shade -dried on raised
tables between 20-25 days, depending on weather conditions.
