Burka Coffee Estate is a historic and environmentally responsible specialty coffee producer located in Northern Tanzania. Established in 1899 by German settlers, the estate is named after the natural springs that provide water for irrigation and neighboring communities. After several changes in ownership, it has been under the stewardship of a group of Swiss investors since 1929.
Currently managing 302 hectares of shade-grown Arabica coffee, Burka employs over 200 permanent staff, with an additional 2,000 seasonal workers during harvest. The estate is committed to responsible, eco-friendly production practices and provides housing, medical services, and education for its permanent staff and their families.
Situated at the base of Mount Meru, Burka enjoys an optimal climate for cultivating high-quality specialty coffee, ensuring both exceptional flavor and sustainable practices.
