Shyira Coffee Washing Station:
Perched at 1,850 meters in the misty hills of Nyabihu, Shyira is the highest known coffee washing station in Rwanda — and one of the most inspiring. Since its founding in 2017, Shyira has been a symbol of elevation in every sense: elevation in altitude, quality, and community potential. Managed by Evariste Hagumimana, this station may be our smallest, but its impact is mighty. With cooler temperatures, rich volcanic soils, and high-altitude microclimates, Shyira produces coffees with bright acidity, floral aromatics, and complex fruit profiles — some liken it to a Kenyan cup, but uniquely Rwandan. Thanks to Muraho’s extensive seedling program and farmer support in this remote area, production here has tripled in recent years — a testament to how investment in people and place brings exceptional results.
Beyond coffee, the view alone tells a story: waterfalls, the Gicice river, and the majestic volcanoes that are home to Rwanda’s mountain gorillas. Shyira is not just a station — it’s a summit of potential.
