At the end of the 1940s, in the District of Boquete at a region which is located near the top of the Baru Volcano; the coffee tradition of Laura Laura E. Suárez parents, Vidal Suarez and Eira Gutierrez de Suarez, was born. her parents eagerly worked and cultivated the land with their own hands at their first coffee plantation known as la Camiseta. When the farm was in full production, Laura’s parents started buying the neighboring properties and others offered to them in different areas in Boquete; therefore, they became one of the 5 major producers of coffee in the area. the coffee comes from three farms called Dona Eira Estate, Los Limones Estate and Camiseta Estate. The varieties Typica, Catuai, Catuai Amarillo, Geisha are mainly grown there.

Coffee came to Panama with European settlers in the early 19th century. For a long time, the coffee from Panama didn’t have a particularly good reputation, the production was only 10% of the neighboring country Costa Rica. Panama is now very popular among specialty traders and consumers.
