There are two harvesting seasons in Kenya. The main harvest takes places between April and November (60% of total harvest). The second harvest takes place between December and July, and reaches 40% of the total volume. In Kenya exporters do not buy the coffee from cooperatives or plantations directly but in auctions that are held by the state every couple of weeks.

Coffees from Kenya

The first plants came from Ethiopia in the 19th century, but it was not until the beginning of the 20th century that french missionaries introduced the valuable Bourbon plants.

Main production areas: Mount Kenya, Kigumo, Nyeri District, Kirinyaga, Ruiru Region, Kiambu Region
