The story of Finca La Bella began in 1960 when it was established. Teodoro Engelhardt’s (the producer) story journey started in 1999 when he eagerly joined his father in the family coffee business, working alongside him for 13 years. After his father’s passing, Teodoro made the decision to continue the family tradition as a fourth-generation coffee producer. With knowledge passed down through generations, he nurtured the estate in the heart of La Sierra de las Minas. Finca La Bella became renowned for its exceptional coffee, a testament to Teodoro’s passion and expertise. As the legacy continues, Teodoro ensures that the special coffee from Finca La Bella captivates coffee lovers for generations to come.This remarkable estate has gained global acclaim for ist exceptional coffee, featured multiple times in the Cup of Excellence.
In this region, coffee cultivation has thrived since the 1950s, flourishing within the embrace of the mountainous terrain and transforming it from a poverty-stricken and remote area into a vibrant center of coffee production. Every farm nestled amidst the undulating slopes has now evolved into a coffee producing unit, showcasing the remarkable progress. The cultivation of diverse coffee varieties including Villarsarchi, Bourbon, Caturra, Pache, and Pacamara adds to the rich tapestry of flavors in this region. Guatemala’s coffee belt runs along a chain of 34 volcanoes that crosses the country from East to West and benefits the coffee production with soils rich in minerals and nutrients. The soil is mostly volcanic, limestone and pumice. Consistent rainfall and year round warm climate guarantee the crops. The coffee is mostly grown under Gravilea and Inga shade trees which make 7% of the national forest. It is always hand-picked and dried under the sun, except for the Cobán coffee, which production region is sometimes too humid.
Main production areas: San Marcos, Huehuetenango, Atitlán, Acatenango, Antigua, Cobán, Fraijanes, Oriente.
Cup Profile: A fragrant, full bodied coffee with pleasant citrus acidity. Depending on the region the coffee can vary from intense acidity and fruit notes to delicate sweetness and chocolatey.
