This farm belongs to the Solis Ureña family. Maira Solis Ureña (the mother) has the full help of her daughters Delfina and Davila, and her son Eduardo. Maira has been growing coffee all her life, but it was after the last harvest, right when the pandemic was at the worst time that the whole family decided to start milling their cherries. Their main idea was to improve their margins with coffee to take care of their farm and the wildlife that inhabits their land. Only about 10% of the land is planted with coffee, the rest all untouched mountain reserve. The Solis family had been analyzing the idea of starting a micro-mill and learning about coffee processing for many years, this is why all of their processes are so well done and taste so well.

Coffees from Costa Rica

Coffee was planted in Costa Rica in the late 1700s, and it was the first Central American country to have a fully established coffee industry; by the 1820s, coffee was a major agricultural export with great economic significance to the population. National output was greatly increased by the completion of a main road to Puntarenas in 1846, allowing farmers to more readily bring their coffee from their farms to market in oxcarts – which remained the way most small farmers transported their coffee until the 1920s.
