Fazenda Cruzeiro Maragogype pulped natural
natural
Fazenda Cruzeiro belongs to Mr. Carlos Alberto Paulino da Costa’s family and it’s been with
them for about 100 years. Mr. Carlos, owner and farm’s manager, graduated as an Agronomist
in 1960. Since then he has worked with coff ee growing, keeping the activity on going, and this
vocation passed from father to son. The farm is located in the south of Minas Gerais, at an
average altitude of 1.100 meters. It has the varieties Mundo Novo, Topázio (hybrid variety of
Mundo Novo and Catuai) and most recently the Maragogype variety has been cultivated in
Cruzeiro farm and in Mrs Maria Aparecida (Mr. Carlo’s wife) who also has a farm which is like
a “sister” of Cruzeiro. This Maragogype variety was cultivated in Brazil at the beginning of the
20th century. With the coff ee crisis in 1929, this variety was practically abandoned. Few coff ee
trees of this variety remained in some properties that had tradition in coff ee production. From
these beans, Mr. Carlos began to multiply them. The interest of the buyers and the quality of
the drink made him believe and increase the cultivation. Today the properties combined has
two thousand trees of this Maragogype variety and expects to have a bigger production from
